Effective leadership training with New Horizons
Business and demographic trends have put companies in a precarious position
The last decade has brought new challenges to corporations and the Organizational Development people who support them. The unrelenting drive toward improved worker productivity, outsourcing of functions that are not core to the business, and movement of jobs to lower-wage geographies have put a strain on managers and workers alike. Nowhere is this strain more visible than with new managers who may be bright and capable, but are often unprepared and ill-trained for their new assignments and the associated personnel challenges. This dynamic is coupled with a shifting in demographics that is causing older, more experienced workers to leave the workforce and requiring younger workers to step-up more quickly than career progression would normally dictate. The result is troubling – business being managed by inexperienced people who have not fully developed the interpersonal skills to effectively lead.
Accelerated learning to build skills and confidence is part of the solution
Although there truly is no substitute for experience, a significant part of the experience “gap” can be filled by learning from the trials and tribulations of others. Business schools have been teaching corporate leaders by way of case studies, role-play and simulations, and business analysis for decades. Cases are analyzed and presented in groups to facilitate sharing of ideas and experiences. But what about the new manager who does not have the opportunity to attend business school, or a mentor with experiences to draw upon? How does thenew manager develop at the rate that is required to support the speed that business is moving?
Now, an eLearning program specifically for the new manager
